BIG DATA START-UP TAMR, INC., OPENS SAN FRANCISCO OFFICE
Ayman Khalil from Apple Named to Lead the Office
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif./CAMBRIDGE, Mass.– June 23, 2014 – Just weeks after it launched at DataBeat 2014 in San Francisco with more than $16 million in financing led by Google Ventures and New Enterprise Associates, Tamr, Inc., of Cambridge, Mass., has opened a San Francisco office. Ayman Khalil, former App Store analytics lead for Apple in Cupertino, has joined Tamr as West Coast field engineering lead and will lead the new office.
The new office will provide a base for sales, business development and engineering operations on the West Coast. Tamr co-founder Daniel Bruckner of the University of California, Berkeley, a member of the original research project at MIT, will be among those supporting the new office, as well as Tamr chairman Jerry Held, who is based in the San Francisco area. Tamr is actively hiringin the Bay Area for sales, business development, field engineering and software development positions.
“This location gives us excellent access to talent, as well as to customers, partners and top academic research institutions who share our mission of making it easier for businesses to use all of the data available to them today,” said Tamr co-founder and CEO Andy Palmer.
“Tamr has deep roots here, with Daniel Bruckner coming out of UC Berkeley and my co-founder Mike Stonebraker pioneering many of the early advancements in modern database technology as a professor at UC Berkeley for 25 years.”
“We’re seeing a lot of interest in Tamr, particularly from companies here in the Bay Area,” said Jerry Held. “They’re impressed with Tamr’s ability to combine machine learning and advanced algorithms with collective human insight to identify data sources, understand relationships and curate siloed data at scale.”
Tamr’s scalable platform for data integration and preparation lets businesses connect and enrich all their data, including internal data sources and external public data sources, as well as feeds from the Internet of Things. In early customer tests, Tamr was able to connect, curate and prepare enterprise data in days or weeks, instead of months or quarters. Tamr’s software is commercially available and deployed in production at Fortune 100 companies.
Following the success of initial research at MIT CSAIL, the Tamr team began building a commercial-grade solution designed to tackle the challenge of connecting and enriching diverse data at scale, quickly and cost effectively.
